Optimize Your Sound Healing Experience
Creating Space
I love creating the space before I meditate, as I am setting up for a sound healing mediation, yoga class or 1:1 healing session. I think it makes all the difference in allowing our mind and body to drop into a deep state of relaxation. This is where the deep healing or change can take root. Think about what items, scents, other things you will need to totally let go for the duration of your session.
Working the Senses
I start with palo santo or sage. I use it to cleanse the space as well as my physical & energetic body.
I light a candle or my favorite incense 5 - 10 minutes before getting started. I like to use something I am used to so it becomes a soft underlayer that doesn’t take away from anything else while gently helping me to settle down.
I make sure to have an eye pillow or wash cloth - anything to put over my eyes to block out light.
I also like to use an essential oil, one that is high vibrational allowing me to quiet my mind so that I can drop into a deep state of meditation. My current favorite is Moringa Oil with Blue Lotus by Ritual Oils. Just before getting started I put a few drops on the palms of my hands, rub them together creating some friction that activates oil. Then I place my hands over my nose & mouth taking a few deep breaths.
I enjoy a cup of Cacao most days before I start to meditate (more to come on the benefits) as it is a heart opener that increases blood flow to my body. It allows me to drop into myself, opening up to the healing vibrations of the bowls or guided meditation.
Depending on my intention for the session, I will likely bring crystals to the session as well. I add this extra energy to help channel my intention. You can hold them in the palm of your hand or set them in your space.
Get Comfortable
Wear comfortable clothes. Whatever this means to you.
Create a comfortable space for yourself to do this healing work. You can lay down (recommended) or be seated. You can lay in your bed, on your couch, on your yoga mat on the floor or sit comfortably anywhere.
Use bolsters or pillows under your ankles, knees, hamstrings, and/or head. Support your body any way it needs. Don’t forget a blanket!
If you are joining a virtual session, I highly recommend using headphones, earbuds or a speaker. It allows you to connect more deeply with the vibrations of the bowls.
Following Your Session
Drink lots of water before, after & always! Water will help you flush stagnant energy along with any toxins that might come loose.
Ideally, you will have time to rest, relax & integrate the work you’ve done following your session. If possible, buffer time after your session to do so.
You may want to shower or take a bath following your session or at least before going to sleep to help flush any remaining energy that was cleared but didn’t fully leave your energetic field.
