Should I Try Ear Candling?
What is Ear Candling?
Ear candling, which is also commonly referred to as ear coning, has been a holistic practice utilized for centuries across various cultures. This alternative therapy not only helps to eliminate excessive earwax but also improves overall hearing capabilities, can significantly reduce headaches, and offers a number of additional benefits. The process involves starting by carefully placing the pointed end of the candle into the ear canal, next you light the other end of the candle on fire. As the candle burns, the heat generated begins to travel down the cone (typically made of beeswax) of the candle and into the ear, softening the built-up earwax. This gentle application of heat creates a mild vacuum effect within the cone, effectively drawing out the accumulated earwax and any other debris in the ear canal into the cone for removal.

My Experience
I had tried ear candling years ago with a friend during grad school. I loved it but it didn’t become a part of my routine at the time. Not too long ago I was in a yoga class where another member was really struggling with plugged ears for an extended period of time. One morning we had a sub, she mentioned ear candling as a possible solution. I started to research it again. It took me a few weeks of convincing but I got my mom on board to do it with me. The first time we did it was a little awkward & uncertain, naturally. The results were almost immediately noticeable. I sometimes experience my ears being plugged or popping (not painful) for a little while after a session while my body shifts to a new equilibrium but nothing major in terms of side effects.
We’ve both committed to doing it monthly for 6 months as recommended in one of the posts I read. We both also start to notice when it is time for another session. Not only do our ears feel plugged, we’ve both noticed they get a little itchy, we notice more debris around the ear canal. I feel more blocked energetically & generally my body is signaling it is time.
